Your thoughts?

What would your reaction be when you see this commercial for the very first time?

For me, when I see it for the first time I could not even figure out what was it about as it was subbed in Japanese. Intially, I thought that it was advertising for some new Japanese game or some new toy.Despite this, my attention was still drawn to it as I find that the animation was sort of cute and I really hoped to see what will the ending be.

I positioned myself in front of the television all the way till the end of the commercial and only figured out that it was actually advertising for this nutrition bar that is made from soy beans. I find that this commercial is quite a good one as it creates a suspense to draw viewer’s attraction. The product is only shown till nearly the end of the commercial. I personally think that this creative advertisement really deserves a smile on everyone’s face.

So I wonder, what will you be thinking about when you are viewing this commercial?

Hey, i worked as a promoter for this product few months back.
Well, i came across this advertisment before.
I totally agree with you that this is in fact a very creative and intersting commercial!

I remember this advertisement! It made a very deep impression on me. I feel that it grabs the audiences’ attention and it makes you very curious as to what the bar will taste like! It worked for me!

I agree with you that this advertisement deserves a smile on everyone’s faces!

You can definitely trust on the Japanese to come up with such out-of-nowhere ideas for their commercials. They focus a lot on humor to grab the attention of the audience, and only HINT on the practicality of their products, if there is any.

yup I agree with you that the Japanese do really create out of the world ideas that are so interesting that sometimes you will not even know what are they advertising.I think that their concept is just to allow people to create a rememberance in people’s mind.

I have to say that this advertisement was very… Out of the blue. I couldn’t even tell that the ‘thing’ pacing up and down in front of the operating theatre was a soybean. And my guess for the soybean’s wife, would be a tomato. Kinda poor ad, in the sense that you don’t really know what kid of flavour they’re trying to market, though it does have limited success in the form of capturing the audience attention.

As regards to what Les. has said, well it is true that this ad is not that easy to understand if you watch it for the the first time as everything sort of flow in a fast pace. For myself, I had to watch it for a few times before I can totally understand what it was about. As I was saying, I find that this ad is just trying to get us to remember it, that means when you think of nutrtion bar, you will think of it. =)

I thought that this ad was freaky! I just couldnt accept the fact that the odd looking female thing was giving birth and that the ‘man’ had a bizzare looking gigantic head. The most puzzling part was when a HUMAN head popped out from behind the door and said “It’s a bar!”. That was the last straw. This ad, FREAKY.

  8. MavericK Said:

    Quoting Les.:
“I couldn’t even tell that the ‘thing’ pacing up and down in front of the operating theatre was a soybean.”

Same here. I thought ‘he’ was a potato. LOL

I thought the commercial was dumb – yet innovative. I went ‘huh?’ at the start, and only knew what they were trying to sell at the few last seconds. I think someone in lecture did mention about the Japanese always coming up with weird ideas for commercials, so as to attract the viewers’ attention. Totally agree here.
But, I guess it kind of serve as an entertainment for us as well. We, Singaporeans are so stressed! Haha. :)) At least the commercial brought a little joy to our daily lives. I did laugh at end, so somehow it helps to brighten up my day.
Just to share, the BAR they are trying to advertise is delicious! Should give it a try. :))

HAHAHA! This ad is funny lar..

So where can i buy my soyjoy?

  11. Gem Said:

Another one of those typically bizarre commercials!
Still it’s very innovative and I never would have thought that they could advertise a bar in that way….it certainly leaves an impression, haha.

  12. Shawn Tay Said:

haha this is a classic example of the japanese’s ingenuity. They never cease to surprise, impress and most of all, leave a mark on you.

There are 2 things in my humble opinion that has the most powerful impact on the mass audience.

    1. elegance and strong simplicity that is understated.
    2. something that bends or rather breaks rules.

both of these rules apply to different social contexts. Which one makes the stronger impression on you?

    You be the judge.

  13. joy Said:

i coudn’t quite relate to it at first! hahas. but i must say it’s something innovative and new. most importantly, it catches the attention of the viewers.

but you would think it sounds kinda wrong if you’ve seen the version in mandarin? “生了一条!” the moment my mum heard that she was like, aiyohhh, so wrong.
    so yeah. hahas.

    Hi!

The Japanese deserve kudos for always coming up with innovative ideas to “sell” their products! I wondered as much as you too, when this commercial first appeared on TV.

I don’t know if you remember the Systema toothbrush commercial:

The addictive jingle, same model sporting different clothes and hair in various different scenes. Interesting, isn’t it? Like the Soyjoy advert, it left a big impression on me basically because the advert does not seem to “link” with the product they’re selling (:

  15. Clair Said:

I enjoyed this advertisment, just because it was simply creative. A simple yet colourful concept of cartoon graphics, sometimes advertisments that you dont nessasarily get at the begin but evetually at the end, is more captivating, it encourages you to watch it again no matter how silly it might be just to get the gist of it.
It just showcases how creative Japanese advertisments are. (:

  16. com101b Said:

To Clair: I like Japanese advertisement a lot as I find them super creative, but often,I cannot figure out what are they advertising about as the product has somehow blend into the advertisement,
But no matter what, I salute the Japanese for their creativity. =)
